I LOVE BAKING

Baking is part art and part science experiement. I love the challenge of trying new techniques and pushing what I can do. Cakes and gingerbread I love the most partly because you can make them look like what they are not. Generally, a pie is just a pie. But a cake can be almost anything! They are challenging creatively, artistically, and technically.

SNACK ARTS ORIGINS

Baking is an expression of love.

Growing up, my Mom always made our birthday cakes. I loved the end result, but over the years I found that I also like watching the process, just as I always enjoyed making cookies with Grandma or with Mom. Baking was time spent with family, thinking about them while you make something you know they will enjoy.

I used to look through Mom’s old Wilton magazines with gingerbread house contest winners and cake ideas and supplies.

We used to make gingerbread houses for Christmas every year growing up. I loved the baking smell and the fun of decorating the house and landscaping the yard.

As I got older, I tried my hand at various baking projects and found that I loved every part of it.

Frozen Cake

This cake was for a movie night potluck featuring the movie Frozen. I decided to play with sugar. My thought was that I would use sugar to make frozen waves or some kind of frozen water-like decoration and then Olaf, cause he's the best in that movie. My first idea...
