Lego Star Wars Cupcakes

May 13, 2015

These cupcakes were a specific commission and I couldn’t have been happier to do them! I love Star Wars and grew up playing with Legos.

I took my putty molding compound and molded some borrowed Lego figures.

It turned out quite a bit more difficult than anticipated – painting on chocolates that small is tricky, and the food colouring often bled, so the details got a bit fuzzy. Getting a really good black was also a bit tricky, but with enough food colouring, you can get there.

I’ve used the molds I made for this project at least three times. Since then, I’ve seen more standard Lego molds. I would have bought that if it was available when I needed it. The arms were the most trouble, but also getting the legs/feet molded and able to come out was difficult, because of the hole at the bottom of the foot. most of the characters use the same default body, so all you need is a head mold to put on top of the generic body, choose the right colours, and add the details by paint. Chewbacca was probably the most custom figures I had, and the easiest to do because everything is the same colour.
