this project was for my niece’s & nephew’s dedication party. I decided to do a bible. I remember my younger sister received a Precious Moments picture bible when she was young, so I thought that would make a better cake than a closed book. It was a while since I had done any painting on a cake, so I thought I’d try my hand here.
I went online and looked for some Precious Moments colouring book pages to use as reference. Rather than free handing, I decided to trace images onto rice paper using edible markers and then paint with food colouring onto the paper.
The process was more difficult than I anticipated. Painting on wafer paper is tricky – too much water and it all goes to much. The colours tend to bleed as well, so it was hard to get a clear image. One side of the paper is smooth and doesn’t take moisture well and the other side is more rough, so painting on the texture doesn’t always work well.
The text I traced as well through the paper with a food colouring marker. I love those things! I had to do some touch-ups with a brush. I had tried cutting out the text from paper and use it like a stencil, but that didn’t work out overly well, as the letters were very difficult to cut out cleanly.
I added some fondant accents to the book as well.
